New Album announcement — a free gift to all bandcamp supporters and newsletter subscribers ❄️☃️

One year ago, I began playing completely improvised live concerts not based on jazz standards — a mode of musical exploration that came with ease…only when I was by myself.

Since then, each time I’ve encountered an opportunity for long-form improvisation, in public performance, I’ve asked: how might I try something new still, maybe push the envelope a bit further?

For this concert from April 2023, I tried switching instruments throughout the set, between acoustic and electric piano. In addition, synth effects layered upon the tracks provide worlds of textures threaded through the 70-minute show.

It’s a journey of exploratory grooves, cut into 11 tracks, quirky enough for holiday gatherings yet contemplative enough for scribbling then crossing out New Year’s resolutions to.

So: I quite like how it turned out :) Even better, the maestro Brian Trahan graciously hopped aboard to assist with all audio matters including mixing 🍯

And in addition to live audience, the concert was played for the Open Metaverse hosted by OnCyber, in the 6529 Museum District, where people across the world joined with dancing avatars in celebration of the changing seasons. The songs are named after notable artworks made by members of the 6529 community, and can also be found as 1/1 NFTs at Catalog:

There’s a conceptual curiosity to this release! A spiritual provenance links each song here to its unique on-chain, NFT version on Catalog. It works this way:

1. Currently, these songs are under regular copyright, and can be purchased, downloaded, streamed just like other commercial music. (Bandcamp supporters and newsletter subscribers receive a free download code: info below.)

2. Now the plot-twist: the moment someone collects a 1/1 NFT on Catalog, its corresponding song is released into the world as cc0 music — meaning, free for everyone to download, listen…and also remix, sample, even sell commercially if they like. Free as in liberated.
